Why did you get into CrossFit?
It was around 2011 I received a dvd copy of a documentary called ‘Every Second Counts’. I was blown away with Jason Khalipa’s performance and was hooked from that moment on.
Why did you become a trainer?
At the time I had two years of personal training experience and was a member at a local Crossfit gym. I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives on a bigger scale so I completed my Crossfit course, did work experience, volunteered at competition events just in case an opportunity was available. Through perseverance, it did and I haven’t looked back.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Receiving messages and free coffee from members when they achieve their goals is always a highlight.
What’s your favorite CrossFit Movement?
Back squat and bicep curls – yes it’s a functional movement.
What do you do to relax away from the gym?
Hang out at a local cafe with my partner Rebecca and baby Zakk or grocery shopping.
What’s your advice for somebody getting started with CrossFit?
You won’t PB everyday!!! Don’t mistake intensity for hard work. Even if you had a bad day and the intensity just isn’t there, you can still get a lot out in the gym through hard work. Intensity and hard work are not the same thing. So don’t skip a session just because you don’t think you’re going to kill that workout or favour certain movements. Not feeling strong that day? That’s cool, scale the weights and/or the rounds. Remember something is better than nothing.
